Our thesis

Software first

The Caatinga has sun, wind and land in abundance. What it lacks is modern technology. The businesses, clinics and public services of the semi-arid run on software from another era, and the companies that modernize them, built to a global bar by local engineers, can become category leaders far beyond the region.

01

Software before solar panels

Before talking about solar panels to cut a supermarket’s energy bill, talk about its inventory, logistics and HR systems. The fastest gains in the semi-arid come from replacing broken software, and every business here needs it.

02

AI that manages, not just produces

Clean energy generation will happen with or without us. The value is in the intelligence layer: software and AI that forecast, balance and spend energy and water better than anyone else.

03

Talent, together

The region already has talented developers, but they work alone and rarely meet the bar of the world’s best teams. Bringing them together under high standards is how the semi-arid builds its own champions.

An honest starting position

What the sertão has, and what it lacks.

Has

  • Tens of millions of people, young and hungry for opportunity
  • Thousands of businesses, clinics and city halls ready for modern software
  • Strong engineering schools, such as UFCG in Campina Grande
  • Developers with talent and grit, working on their own
  • Abundant sun and wind to power data and compute
  • A cultural identity strong enough to survive centuries of neglect

Lacks

  • Modern software: stores, clinics and hospitals run on decades-old systems
  • A place where its engineers come together
  • A Silicon Valley bar for software quality
  • Capital that understands software
  • Credibility with international markets

Every company we back should move at least one item from the right column to the left.

What we look for

Investment criteria

We invest from pre-seed to Series A, and we follow on in the companies that become regional anchors.

  1. Software-first

Companies whose core is software or AI, solving a real operational problem for businesses, clinics, farms or governments in the semi-arid.

  2. Built to a global bar

Teams that hold themselves to the engineering, product and design standards of the best companies in the world.

  3. Rooted in the region

Founders building in, or for, Brazil’s semi-arid, who hire and grow local engineering talent.

  4. Exportable

Products that every underserved market, from the rest of Brazil to the Sahel, the Middle East and Central Asia, will also buy.

Where we focus

Three anchor zones

We concentrate where universities, talent and customers already exist, then build outward.

PB

Campina Grande

One of Brazil’s strongest computer science traditions, and the natural home for the region’s engineering community.

PE · BA

Petrolina–Juazeiro

Irrigated agriculture on the São Francisco river: a living lab for agritech, supply-chain and water-management software.

CE · PE

Pecém and Suape coast

Ports, logistics and energy-intensive industry that need software to manage operations, energy and trade.
